d-d-dance till you get it right

Settling back from Barcelona, I spend a lovely Sunday popping around my favorite Boston spots with my favorite one. I played up the leather on leather on leather on leather look, with of course a splash of denim. These are the perfect wax leather pants I found at Zara. They fit like a glove and have that subtle edgy vibe we all know I covet. This balance between edgy leather, casual denim and vintage satchel is what I call a balanced fashion diet.

Have a great week!

Beautiful Barcelona

Here are a few quick shots from Barcelona.
I've been busy with work but there is always time to grab a photo.
Its is so beautiful, you get inspired just by walking around.
Everything is aesthetically pleasing.

Happy Friday!

Flagship store opening: IvanaHelsinki

instagram photos

The flagship store for IvanaHelsinki is now officially open on Elizabeth Street in NYC, next to the likes of Rag & Bone and Tori Burch. This has been a two year goal, since their pop up store was such a sucess. The opening party was packed with interesting people who couldn't wait to see what the space would be like. Sipping on wine, premium swedish cider and snacking on nuts and crackers, the vibe was chill and very nordic. The boutique leads back to a space perfect for music events and hanging out. Racks lined the walls and now all that we are waiting for is seeing what events IvanaHelsinki will bring in!

Congrats IvanaHelsinki on making the move into the city!
I was able to chat with Pirjo, the other half of IvanaHelsinki. She was overjoyed with the opening and can't wait to be apart of the local community.

Runway show: IvanaHelsinki AW2012

The IvanaHelsinki runway show brought long flowing dresses, 70's patterns and dark sophisticated dresses. The best part of this show was the mix of textures and patterns, from corduroy to silk and lace. Each look made a unique statement, extremely long hemlines, wide legged flares or bright patterns. The impression pieces were the chic knee length dresses. The high necklines kept them chic yet the leggy look kept things exciting, perfect for a day to night look. The textured tights are definitely going to be a hit. They add the extra detail that keep things quirky. This is one of my favorite collections by IvanaHelsinki, where I walked away feeling that I might not be able to live without a few of these added to my personal collection.

interview: PAOLA from IvanaHelsinki

I had the wonderful opportunity to chat with Paola before the show about what is coming up for IvanaHelsinki, what inspires her and why, people like me, really do make a difference for a brand like hers.

The biggest news for this brand is their new flagship store opening on Elizabeth Street, proudly next to the likes of Rag & Bone and Tory Burch. (Post to come on this!) After the successful pop up store a couple of years ago, it became a goal to find a permanent home in NYC. The scene invites the likes of IvanaHelsinki to feel right at home. The boutique will not only feature the collections but local artists and musicians. Having numerous friends within the indie scene, Paola, a film maker herself, wanted the space to be a place where artists can come together and share through different events.

IvanaHelsinki's collections have a strong bohemian feeling yet the Scandinavian countries are known to produce design that is minimalistic, simple and functional. Paola feels a much stronger influence from the Slavic countries. She clearly translates this in her 70's reminiscent fabric patterns and styles. She owns each piece in the collections, designing each piece down to the fabric patterns.

My biggest burning question for Paola was why she valued individuals like myself, who promoted the brand through blogs and social media. I first photographed IvanaHelsinki in Copenhagen back in 2010. From then on, each NYFW I have been covering the show, keeping my readers up to date with Paola's collections. Paola feels that it is the new way to reach to the masses through the small veins that bloggers create. "I think that its the modern way of communicating with the people, that's the way to do it nowadays..it's part of being in this underground culture, I don't think fashion should be up there." With the likes of Natalie off Duty, Late Afternoon and Flashes of Style showing up in the front row, this really is a major way of connecting with the masses and allowing consumers to feel a part of the experience.

Thank you to Paola for giving us an insite to IvanaHelsinki. It's about creating what inspires you and growing in today's world while keeping a true sense of style and individuality.
